Pinned Messages & In-Chat Search

Pinning a message

  1. Long-press the message you want to pin.
  2. Tap Pin to chat from the actions sheet.

The message now appears in a banner at the top of the conversation, just below the chat header. You can pin more than one message in the same chat — the banner keeps track of your most recent pins and lets you cycle through them.

In a direct message, either person can pin or unpin a message. In a group chat, pinning is limited to the owner and admins.

Using the pinned banner

  • Tap the banner to jump to that message in the conversation. If more than one message is pinned, tapping again cycles to the next one — the banner shows which pin you’re on (for example, “Pinned · 2/4”).
  • Tap the chevron on the banner to open the full list of pinned messages. From here you can jump to any of them directly, or tap the x next to a message to unpin it (only visible if you have permission to pin in that chat).

To unpin a message directly, long-press it and tap Unpin — the option replaces Pin to chat once a message is already pinned.

Searching a chat’s history

  1. Open the conversation you want to search.
  2. Tap the search icon in the chat header (in a group chat, this may be under the menu as Search messages).
  3. Type what you’re looking for.

Results appear as a list showing the sender, a timestamp, and a snippet of each matching message. Tap a result to jump straight to it in the conversation.

On the web

Pinning, the pinned banner, and in-chat search work the same way on nuts.social — look for the same pin action in the message menu, the same banner under the chat header, and the same search icon.
