Choosing Your Handle & Avatar
Your handle
When you create your account, Nuts assigns you an @handle automatically — you don’t type one in during sign-up. If you’d like your Nuts handle to match a specific name, the way to do that today is by linking your X account:
- Go to Settings > Connections (labeled Linked Accounts in some places).
- Find X (Twitter) and tap Connect.
- Sign in with X. This uses X’s own sign-in screen through Nuts’ login provider — Nuts never sees or asks for your X password.
- Once linked, Nuts automatically updates your @handle to match your X username.
Linking X is currently the only way to change your handle — there’s no separate “edit handle” field. If you don’t link an X account, you keep the handle Nuts assigned you.
Your avatar
Every account starts with a default placeholder avatar. To personalize it, Nuts has an Avatar Maker tool that generates a custom 2D or 3D avatar from a short text description — you describe what you want and Nuts generates it for you. You can also upload your own photo instead.
On the web
If you’re creating a brand-new account, the web app shows a short “Meet your Nut” step right after sign-up, introducing your assigned handle and giving you two options: jump into Avatar Maker to generate a custom avatar, or upload a photo. You can also skip this and come back to it later — your default avatar stays until you change it.
On the app
The app doesn’t show a dedicated avatar step after sign-up today — you land straight in your feed with the default avatar. To set up your avatar, open the side menu, tap Edit Profile, and open Avatar Maker from there. See Editing Your Profile and Avatar Maker for the full walkthrough.
