Notification Settings
Notification Preferences control which kinds of activity notify you — on push and in your Notifications tab. There’s no single master switch for notifications; each category is controlled separately.
Opening Notification Preferences
-
Open the side menu — tap your avatar or the menu icon — and tap Settings.
-
Scroll down to the Notification Preferences section, between Feed Preferences and your account details.
-
Tap any toggle to turn that category on or off. Changes save immediately — there’s no separate save button.
What each toggle controls
| Toggle | Notifies you when… |
|---|---|
| Likes | Someone likes your post |
| Comments | Someone comments on your post |
| Replies | Someone replies to your comment |
| Mentions | Someone mentions you |
| Direct Messages | You get a new message — this covers one-on-one chats and group chats |
| Community Updates | There’s activity in a community you’ve joined, like a new post or a new member |
A few notification types aren’t covered by these toggles and always come through — new followers and Shell tags, among others. Turning a toggle off stops that category everywhere: as a push notification and as an entry in your Notifications tab.
How this relates to muting a chat
These toggles are global — they apply to every chat and every community at once. If you only want quiet from one specific conversation rather than all of Direct Messages, mute that chat instead. See Muting a Chat for how per-chat mute works, including what still gets through: an @mention reaches you even in a muted chat.
