Voice Messages

Recording a voice message

  1. Open a conversation and clear the message box (the microphone icon appears when there’s no text typed).
  2. Tap the microphone icon to start recording.
  3. Speak your message. While recording, you’ll see a pulsing indicator, a running timer, and Recording….
  4. Tap the send button to send the voice message, or the trash icon to discard it and start over.

There’s no time limit on the app — record for as long as you need, then send or discard.

On the web

Recording on nuts.social works differently: press and hold the microphone button to record, and release it to send. While holding, drag upward to arm cancel — the label changes to Slide up to cancel, then Release to cancel once you’ve dragged far enough. Let go while it says that to discard the recording instead of sending it. Web recordings are capped at 5 minutes; recording stops automatically if you hit the limit.

Playing back a voice message

A voice message arrives as a bubble with a play button and a waveform. Tap play to listen — the waveform fills in to show playback progress, alongside a running duration.

On the web

The waveform is tappable: click anywhere along it to jump playback to that point in the recording. In the app, the waveform is a visual progress indicator only — tap the play/pause button to control playback, but you can’t scrub by tapping the waveform itself.

Neither surface currently supports adjustable playback speed or a “played” indicator for the sender.
