What is Nuts?
Nuts is a social app built around four things: a feed you can shape yourself, communities (called Rooms) built around shared interests, chat that goes beyond text, and NutsMode — a video format built for reacting, not just posting.
The feed
Your feed is the home screen — a stream of posts from people and communities you follow, mixed with content Nuts thinks you’ll care about. You’re not stuck with whatever the algorithm decides: Nuts gives you visible controls over how your feed is ranked, a way to tell it “not interested” in something, and topic pages you can follow directly. You’ll find the details on how ranking and discovery work in the Feed & Discovery section.
Communities (Rooms)
Rooms are spaces built around a topic, interest, or group — each with its own posts, chat, and (for larger ones) moderators and rules. You can join as many as you like, and anyone can start one. See the Communities section for how to create, join, and run one.
Chat
Nuts has direct messages and group chats alongside the feed, with the features you’d expect from a modern messaging app: replies, reactions, voice messages, scheduled and disappearing messages, and calls. Chat is covered in Chat & DMs and Live Nut Calls.
NutsMode
NutsMode is Nuts’ video-only format, built around chains rather than standalone clips. Someone starts a chain with a Seed video; other people respond with Echoes — video replies that build the chain out. It’s a different way of reacting to content than a comment or a like, and it’s covered in full in NutsMode & Shells.
What’s different about Nuts
A few things set Nuts apart from a typical feed app:
- You’re not locked into one algorithm. My Algorithm gives you direct controls over what shapes your feed, not just implicit signals.
- Communities are a first-class surface, not an afterthought bolted onto a feed — they have their own chat, livestreams, and moderation tools.
- Reacting is a video format, not just a comment box — that’s the whole idea behind NutsMode and Shells.
- A crypto wallet is one of several sign-in options you can use to create an account, alongside email and social sign-in — you don’t need to know anything about wallets to use Nuts.
