Talking to NERD in Chat & Posts
In group and community chats
NERD listens for its own name in group chats and community chats — you don’t need to @ mention it. Just type a message that addresses “NERD” directly, the way you’d get a person’s attention:
- “NERD, what’s a good time to post this?”
- “NERD, summarize the last hour of this chat”
NERD replies inline, in the same conversation, so everyone in the chat sees both your question and its answer.
In posts and comments
Outside of chat, tag @NERD in a post or a comment the same way you’d tag any other user — it shows up in the mention list as you type @. NERD replies as a comment on that post or comment thread.
Asking for a summary
If you’ve been away from a busy chat, ask NERD to summarize it — something like “NERD, catch me up on what I missed” works. NERD reads back through the recent messages and posts a short recap, so you don’t have to scroll through everything yourself.
Turning NERD off for a chat or community
Chat and community owners can turn NERD off from that space’s chat settings. Once it’s off, addressing NERD by name there won’t get a response until it’s turned back on.
On the web
The same “say its name” behavior works in group and community chats on the web, and the settings toggle to turn NERD off lives in the same place — chat settings for that conversation.
