Shells
Shells are a separate feature from NutsMode chains — worth knowing up front so the two don’t get mixed up. Where NutsMode is public and built around Seeds, Echoes, and Cracks, a Shell is private and built around tagging specific people. It never appears in your feed or a community’s feed; only you and the people you tag can ever see it, and only after they’ve reacted.
Sending a Shell
- Start a new Shell from the Shells inbox.
- Record a video with your camera, or pick one from your library.
- Optionally add a caption.
- Tag the people you want to send it to — search by handle and select as many as you like. This is person-tagging, not a hashtag; you’re choosing specific people, not a topic.
- Tap Send Shell to send it.
Reacting to a Shell
If someone tags you in a Shell, it shows up in your Shells inbox as a locked card reading “React to unlock.” You can’t watch the video until you react to it.
- Tap the locked card to open it.
- The original video plays while your front camera records your reaction in a small picture-in-picture window over it.
- Submit your reaction. Once it’s recorded, the Shell unlocks — you can now watch the full video, and your reaction is saved alongside it.
Free accounts can record up to 30 seconds; Nuts Premium subscribers get up to 120 seconds.
Where reactions go
Your reaction doesn’t post publicly and isn’t added to NutsMode as an Echo — it unlocks a private reaction feed for the people who were tagged on that Shell, visible only to them and the person who sent it.
On the web
Shells work the same way on the web app: pick or record a video, tag specific people, and send. Tagged people see the same locked “React to unlock” card, and reacting plays the original with your camera recording picture-in-picture, just like on the app.
